In October 2020 browse, select, and buy multi-brand cutting tool assemblies from 1 online web application. Yes, modern sourcing for machine shops is finally here. First and only on MachiningCloud.
Back when MachiningCloud was founded, we asked a simple question: why is the machining industry still using print catalogs to distribute cutting tool product information? The question is still relevant today, but in late October, this question will finally be laid to rest!
Why do we need 1 web platform for tool assembly sourcing?
Cutting tool suppliers have made a lot of progress individually over the last few years. Some have embraced digital catalogs with great features and comprehensive information. However, the process for sourcing tools can be annoyingly similar to what it was. Perhaps we are searching Google, or hunting and pecking our way across the web. But these supplier-level adjustments are not enough. At MachiningCloud, we firmly believe that they will never be enough.
What is needed is a third-party, a dedicated marketplace designed to handle the vast troves of information — from tool geometry files to feeds and speeds. An efficient sourcing platform will be end-to-end, not only enabling the user to browse and select multi-brand tool assemblies, they will be able to buy and then integrate relevant tooling information with internal systems such as CAM and simulation software, so that as soon as a part arrives, the program is ready to go.
That vision has been missing a key component — until NOW. In fact, you could argue that this coming release is THE MOMENT we have been building from the beginning, our crowning achievement that finally brings the last feature in alignment with our founding vision of end-to-end tool sourcing. Can you tell we are excited?
Why are cutting tool purchases so important for MachiningCloud Users in terms of saved time?
Reduce the time it takes to find, select, and assemble tools by 75% (85%? 90%? 95%) or more
MachiningCloud’s current user base of 80,000 have been using the app as a convenient, integrated source for multi-brand tooling data. However, they have been forced to step outside the app to complete their purchase orders with manufacturers. The October update creates a seamless, integrated sourcing experience with purchasing as critical function. A user will be able to, for example, check a tool assembly against their inventory and place a purchase order for everything that is needed, right there within the app! The features we have built are taken to the next level of convenience with purchasing in place.
The ability to buy tools directly also makes our application easier to integrate as a standalone application. That means that the 300,000 users we are on track to host by 2021 will walk into an end-to-end platform that they can immediately deploy for use alongside other systems, a complete replacement to the hunt-and-peck sourcing of yesterday.
We could not be more excited to help make their tool sourcing even faster than before. It is the software equivalent of that moment when the job is polished, probed, and ready for shipping. We do have more in the works, but this is the beginning of an era — for our development and, we hope, for machine shops in North America.
